The Jet d’eau (1891) This is remarkable! Geneva’s famous Jet d’Eau came into being almost by chance. In 1886, the hydraulic factory, delivering water from the Rhône to the city’s craftsmen and watchmakers, had to install a safety valve for the water not needed after the workshops closed: the Jet d’Eau was born! Today, its 500 litres/second push the water at 200 km/h to 140 metres high.
